The sugar industry in the eastern province of Las Tunas is developing systematic mobilizations, to fulfill the plan for spring planting of sugarcane, having as deadline the 30th of this month.
The offensive in the cane fields of the territory, responds to the need to utilize the soil moisture left by the rains registered with some regularity since May.
Entities of the Sugar Business Group (GEA) in the province have made the urgent call for planting, in order to complete the more than 7,800 hectares planned at this stage, because meeting the goal still missed by 50 percent.
Besides the mobilizations, material conditions are being created in each site, such as the availability of seeds in the heads of the furrows and the completion of yokes of oxen.
According to a wire from the Cuban News Agency, in the second semester the eastern province of Las Tunas, should plant a similar figure to reach more than 15,500 hectares by the end of the year. Higher figures than achieved in the last year, because in the current period provides a high substitution of strains.
Sugar production is still the main income of this eastern province; hence the provision of quality seed is crucial for the performance of future harvests.
