BIRGUNJ, : Finance Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai on Thursday said that the government would soon provide special concessions and relief packages to the industries and factory operators in a bid to support them in running their industries without power crisis and other hassles.

The Finance Minister, who reached Birgunj early Thursday to inspect Birgunj customs, the largest trading and revenue-generating point, said that the government was not just concentrating on enforcing tax laws and collecting revenue, but was also working for creating an industry-friendly environment.

“We are soon formulating a new law that will restrict strike in and closure of industries and highways,” said Dr Bhattarai. He noted that the government has already forged an all-party consensus for forming and enforcing such a law.

Finance Minister Dr Bhattarai further stated that the government would provide concessions on the import of diesel generators and other items for the industries so that they could get an electricity supply around the clock.

“The government is taking all possible steps to enable industries to secure an uninterrupted power supply,” he said. “Also a special package is being designed for the sick industries.”

Dr Bhattarai stated that the government was also preparing to restart the operations of the Agricultural Inputs Company, Birgunj Sugar factory and Hetauda Textiles Industry.
