Several cane farmers contracted to the Frome Sugar Factory in Westmoreland are complaining that they are losing thousands of dollars, as they are unable to reap crops ready for production.

The farmers said they have thousands of acres of cane that have been burnt and are ready for harvesting.

They said there are not enough workers to reap the crop.

They also say they have been affected by illicit cane fires.

The farmers are also concerned that they may not be able to repay loans taken from Peoples Co-operative Banks, other financial institutions and the Sugar Industry Authority.

The chairman of the Authority, Ambassador Derrick Heaven, said he would be meeting with the board tomorrow to discuss ways to address the farmers concerns.
