The Sugar Cane Growers Council is seeking an extension of crushing at the Rarawai Sugar Mill before the 2010 crushing season ends this Friday.

Council Acting Chief Executive Office Sundresh Chetty says he will meet with FSC officials to request for the extension of the crushing season for few more days.

Chetty says they want an extension so that all harvested cane can be crushed.

The Sugar Industry Tribunal had made an order for crushing at Rarawai to cease on the 7th of this month.

Chetty told FBC News – they will push for an extension as the weather has now improved and farmers can harvest and deliver more cane to the mill.

Yesterday FSC senior officials and Chetty visited the Rarawai mill to assess the cane crushing and delivery at the mill.
