Propel Fuels to sell E-85 for 85 cents on Wednesday

Ethanol and biodiesel retailer Propel Fuels on Wednesday will offer E-85 ethanol for 85 cents a gallon, down from a typical retail price of $2.39 a gallon, at each of its five fueling stations, including two in Sacramento and one each in Rocklin, Citrus Heights and Elk Grove.

The promotional rate will be offered between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Wednesday. Propel Fuels is offering the discounted fuel to highlight the cost savings and environmental benefits of E-85, an alternative motor fuel blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline.

Propel Fuels estimates there are 25,000 flexible-fuel vehicles in Sacramento. Numerous cars and trucks from Chevy, Ford, Dodge, Isuzu, Jeep, Mazda, Mercedes Benz, Nissan and Toyota are E-85 compatible. The vehicles can be identified by the manufacturer’s vehicle badge, yellow gas cap or by checking the Vehicle Identification Number online. Drivers can also check to see which vehicles are E-85 compatible atwww.propelfuels.com/driveE85.

“Consumers and fleets see considerably more savings at the pump by using E-85, and reduce dependence on foreign oil,” Propel chief executive officer Matt Horton said, in a news release. “Propel’s average E-85 price is 50 cents per gallon lower than gasoline, so checking your car’s flex-fuel compatibility can lead to significant savings at the pump.”

Propel Fuels moved its headquarters to Sacramento from Seattle last year. Besides its retail stations in the Sacramento region, Propel has six stations in Washington.

Propel Fuels recently announced $20 million in private financing that will enable the company to expand its network of alternative fueling stations to major markets across California.
