Trade Union representing Sugar workers meeting at Labour Ministry

Trade unions representing over 4,000 workers in the sugar industry are now meeting at the Labour Ministry.

The meeting is to continue negotiations for a new collective labour agreement on behalf of the workers at Bernard Lodge, Frome, Money musk, St. Thomas Sugar and Long Pond factories.

President of the National Workers Union, Vincent Morrison said at a recent meeting at the Labour Ministry, the Sugar Producers Federation put forward several proposals.

He said having reviewed the offer, the unions have put forward suggestions of their own and are expecting a response today.

Mr. Morrison said that while the government continues divestment discussions, the NWU wants to know what alternative plans are being adopted for the sugar industry.
