EMMETSBURG, Iowa (KTIV) -- The Iowa Department of Economic Development has approved an agreement for the final chunk of state money for a commercial-scale cellulosic ethanol plant in Emmetsburg.

Project LIBERTY will be a 25-million gallon-per-year plant that produces ethanol from corn cobs. The state has approved the final $5.25 million in financial assistance for the project. That brings Iowa's total investment in the project to $20 million.

POET plans to begin construction on the plant this year. It will be partnered with the company's existing grain-ethanol plant in Emmetsburg.
