NORTH DAKOTA has been at the forefront of the renewable energy debate.
Wind energy and ethanol production has been a top priority.
Brad Feldman shows you how a new measure could help the state become even greener..
Sixty million gallons..

It's the amount of ethanol produced at Blue Flint Ethanol each year.

(Jeff Zueger/ GM, Blue Flint Ethanol) "Most of our ethanol about eighty percent of it goes out of state and about twenty percent of it is used in state." Zueger joins Growth Energy and other ethanol producers in an initiative to increase the amount of ethanol in the gasoline you use

Right now, when you pull up to the pump you find E-10 gasoline...a waiver is being considered to increase this amount to a fifteen percent ethanol blend

Zueger says if this moves forward...the state could produce another seventeen million gallons of ethanol each year

(Jeff Zueger/ Blue Flint Ethanol) "Ethanol may not be the silver bullet but it is certainly part of the solution. It's all about choice and having choices and ethanol can be a part of one of the choices that help us curve that demand against the foreign oil." In addition, those organizing the waiver say it would create more "green" jobs

These are jobs in renewable fuels or have a positive impact on the economy

Right now, Blue Flint Ethanol has thirty-seven employees... Zueger says even with the increased blend...it doesn't mean more jobs would definetly be added to this plant

(Jeff Zueger/ Blue Flint Ethanol) "I think at this particular facilty it is more about longterm securing the jobs we have. If you continue to grow the demand for ethanol where is a potential at facilitties like ours could expand our production." But as far as Zueger is concerned...it's a start.

A chance to pump out more alternative fuels while working to bring more green to the local and state economy..
