Sudan aims to produce 13 million metric tons of sugar over the next 10 years, the Sudan News Agency reported, citing Industry Minister Jalal Yousif al- Degair.

Al-Degair met representatives of Awna Investment, a Morrocon company, to discuss the 500 million euro ($696.9 million) Gafa project, which will produce 43,000 tons of sugar a year when output begins in three years, the Khartoum-based news agency said.

Sugar production in Sudan currently stands at about 850,000 tons per annum, according to government data.
