Brazil - CTC to set up cellulosic ethanol plant

Cane research agency Centro de Tecnologia Canavieira (CTC) said it will set up a BRL80 mln ($1=BRL2.07) demonstration-scale facility at an existing cane mill in Sao Manoel, Sao Paulo next year. CTC said its enzyme-based technology will raise the ethanol yield per unit of cane by 30-50%. It expects to receive BRL300 mln through 2016 from the national development bank BNDES and the federal government's research investment fund Finep.

Usina Acucarera Sao Manoel has a daily crushing capacity of 18,000 tonnes. Annual ethanol production capacity is 150 mln litres, Licht Interactive Data show.
