James Buescher Wins American Ethanol 225: A Fan’s Reaction

On Saturday, July 21, 2012, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series was at Chicagoland Speedway for the American Ethanol 225. This was the 10th race of the 22 race season. Approximately halfway through the race, James Buescher went into the garage so his crew could repair his carburetor.

Though he left the garage three laps down, his truck was now fast enough to make up the lost laps. Once on the lead lap, he managed to work his way up to second. With just three laps to go, a caution ended and he managed to pass Brendan Gaughan. Gaughan had been leading most of the race and had seemed poised to get his first victory of the season. Buescher managed to hold on for the victory with Gaughan taking second place.

Buescher has been having a great season so far. He has won three of the 10 races so far this season. Despite the three wins, Buescher is currently still in fourth in the standings with 360 points. Timothy Peters is still the leader with 395 points. Rookie Ty Dillon took second place and Justin Lofton dropped to third place. Parker Kligerman remained in fifth place and is 49 points behind Peters.

Up next for the series is a trip to Pocono Raceway for the Pocono Mountains 125. This race marks the halfway point for the series. The Pocono Mountains 125 will be held on Saturday, August 4. The Sprint Cup Series will also be holding race at the track that weekend. The next day, on August 5, the Sprint Cup Series will be running the Pennsylvania 400. Though there will only be two Camping World Truck Series races in July, there will be four races in August.

This race was a good one for those who like winners who manage to come from behind to take a victory. That was a major setback and it is rare for someone who has a significant mechanical problem to be able to make that kind of come back. The crew is sometimes overlooked, but at a time like that, a crew can make the race for a driver. He is having a great season, thanks in part to a great crew, and it will be interesting to see if he can keep up the pace as the races increase through the end of the season.
