Coimbatore, A National-level Interactive Workshop is being organised here on June 26 and 27 by the Sugarcane Breeding Institute and the Indian Sugar Industry to commemorate their 100 years of growing together which would discuss various issues pertaining to sugarcane agriculture.

It will provide a platform for personnel from sugar and allied enterprise and development departments, researchers and agri-business representatives to share their experience on issue related to sugarcane agriculture and the sugar industry, Dr N Vijayan Nair, Director of the institute said today.

The deliberations will revolve around sugarcane varieties, mechanisation, micro irrigatioin, bio-energy, pests and diseases, knowledge transfer mechanisms and policy issues, he said. Dr N.Mahalingam, Chairman, Sakthi Sugars and a Padma Bhushan awardee will deliver the ‘Centenary Lecture’ at the Inaugural of the Workshop, being organised as part of the Institute's Centenary celebrations, with the support of South India Sugar Mills Association, Nair said.
