PUNE: City-based Vasantdada Sugar Institute (VSI), known for developing a range of sugarcane varieties, introducing good agricultural practices to farmers and imparting knowledge about sugarcane development, is set to provide its consultancy to sugarcane cultivators from other states as well.
This was decided in the annual general body meeting of the institute, held at Manjri on Monday.
Shivajirao Deshmukh, director general of the institute, said, "The sugarcane cultivators from states like Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Karnataka are in constant touch with the institute for technical guidance. Though they were already in touch with the VSI, the institute's domain was Maharashtra state for a long time. With more and more queries from these states, the VSI has decided to cater to the demand of these cultivators officially. The institute will also cater to other states as well in coming years.'
