Ukraine Wants to Halt Import of Raw Sugar

Ukrainian producers of refined sugar want to abandon the import of raw sugar under World Trade Organization terms, Kommersant-Ukraine reported, citing a person with knowledge of the matter at Ukrtsukor, the country’s sugar industry group.

Ukrtsukor has asked President Viktor Yanuukovych to instruct ministers to hold talks with the WTO aimed at stopping the import of raw sugar in the current season, Sept. 1 to Aug. 31, because of the healthy supply of sugar beet and refined sugar, according to Kommersant.
