Renewable Energy Technologies LLC submits plan for waste to ethanol plant n 32nd Street at U.S. 31.
According to the company’s application to the city of Holland’s Zoning Board of Appeals, the factory will use sugar and alcohol-based waste to produce ethanol.
A public hearing will be at 6 p.m. Thursday in council chambers at city hall.
Renewable Energy Technologies plans to buy the building, comprised of office and warehouse space, owned by American Beverage Corp.
In the application, the company said it does not expect any noise issues, and any odor from the facility would be similar to a large microbrewery or winery.
The company expects to produce about 8,000 gallons, less than one truck load, of ethanol daily. It was awarded a $500,000 U.S. Department of Agriculture grant. That and other funding will be used to start and operate the plant, the application said.
