TUGUEGARAO CITY,- Hundreds of workers of the sugar industry in Cagayan province benefited from a two-day medical and dental mission organized by the District Tripartite Council of the Sugar Industry in Cagayan Valley headed by Regional Director Grace Y. Ursua of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) region 2 .

According to Reginald Estioco, DOLE 2 information officer, the first day of the medical-dental mission which was held on July 28, 2011 at the Barangay Hall of Villarey, Piat, Cagayan and it benefited 459 sugar workers and their family members.

The second day of the medical-dental mission was conducted at the compound of Cagayan Robina Sugar Milling Corporation on July 29, 2011 which benefited 273 mill workers and their family members.

The beneficiaries of the two-day activity were given medical and dental services with free medicines provided by the provincial government of Cagayan and the Sugar Industry Foundation Inc.

Estioco said there were eight (8) physicians and eight (8) nurses who provided consultations, diagnostic examinations and treatment of minor illnesses such as colds, flu, cough, high blood pressure, among others and there were six (6) dentists who administered dental services.

The activity was in partnership with the provincial government of Cagayan local government units of of Piat, and Solana, Philippine National Police Region 2, Sugar Industry Foundation, Inc., Cagayan Robina Sugar Milling Corporation, Planters Association; Barangay Villarey and St. Paul University.

The medical and dental mission was started in 2004 and has become an annual activity of the District Tripartite Council for Sugar Industry in region 2. (PIA/DOLE)
