The Sugar Cane Growers Council says they will support any proposal made by the government which will boost the sugar industry.
SCGC Acting Chief Executive, Sundresh Chetty told FBC News that the proposed quality cane payment system will benefit the industry however it is important to iron out issues surrounding the performance of the sugar mills.
According to the quality cane payment system, farmers will be paid according to the cane they supply to the mill.
Chetty says while the new system will improve the yield it is also important that issues related to farmers is addressed when the new system comes in effect.
“We will be happy to work with all the parties to move the industry forward for the betterment of the industry – we are prepared to involve ourselves in all the discussions”
Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary for Sugar Colonel Manasa Vaniqi earlier told FBC News that the new quality cane payment system which will be implemented next year will benefit Fiji Sugar Corporation.
