KUALA LUMPUR: Admuda Sdn Bhd has signed an MOU with CGS International (Chongqing) Co Ltd to build a RM160mil sugar refinery plant in Kuching.

Admuda director Datuk Raja Sulaiman Raja Sharif said the new plant would be the first sugar refinery in Sarawak to cater to sugar demand in Sabah and Sarawak.

“The refinery shall have a minimum production capacity of 300 tonnes per day with the anticipatory expansion capability,” he told reporters yesterday at the signing ceremony.

CGS International was appointed as the turnkey contractor to design, supply, construct and complete the refinery.

“The refinery is expected to be completed and delivered to us within 18-24 months,” he said.

Raja Sulaiman said the group expected to generate revenue of RM260mil-RM270mil in the first year of operation of the refinery.

In the long run, he said the group was hoping the sugar production from the refinery would be able to cater to Peninsular Malaysia and regional needs too.

The project would see contractors, especially those in Sarawak, being given the opportunity to work alongside their Chinese counterparts while gaining further expertise in the construction industry and the sugar refinery business.
