Blow to BJP MP over sugar factory

BANGALORE: In a significant verdict, the Karnataka high court has directed Shivashakthi Sugars, a sugar factory promoted by Prabhakar Kore, BJP MP, from proceeding further in its construction/operations at its Yadrav unit in Belgaum.

"In a society where money, power and nearness count, it is not easy for any honest taxpayer to raise his voice against the atrocities which these people commit and come to court. If persons who come to court risking their interest and establish the violation of several provisions of legislation in the establishment of such an industry, their complaints cannot be thrown out on the ground of delay and on other considerations,'' a division bench headed by justice N Kumar has observed while allowing a batch of petitions filed by sugar factories and farmers.

The bench has asked the deputy commissioner, Belgaum, the Saudatti and Yadrav village panchayats and the jurisdictional inspector of factories to take appropriate action in accordance with law.
