Deregulation of the Indian sugar industry is now within the realms of possibility, Vivek Saraogi, president of the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA)told.
Speaking at the International Sugar Organisation's seminar in London, Saraogi reminded delegates that hitherto India's sugar sector has been subjected to a high degree of regulation by the government. This control has included cane area reservation and a dual cane pricing system: from central government and state governments respectively.
