Cane farmers in Labasa are being briefed on how to increase their cane production while keeping their costs low.

A team from FSC led by the Acting CEO – John Prasad is currently in Labasa and are also briefing farmers on harvesting and transportation issues.

Prasad is accompanied by Sugar Cane Growers Council Acting CEO, Sundresh Chetty, FSC General Manager Field Service, Seru Vularika and the registrar of the Sugar Industry Tribunal, Timoci Brown.

The meeting was also to get farmers views on governments proposed sugar industry reforms.

Speaking from Labasa Growers Acting CEO Chetty says, the team has been briefed on the reasons behind the Labasa mill’s poor performance.

Chetty says the Labasa Sugar mill was still facing crushing stoppages despite upgrade works carried out by vendors from India.
