Prime Minister Commdore Voreqe Bainimarama says the dirty politics of the past destroyed the sugar industry.

Speaking at the Opening of the Ra Provincial Council meeting at Nanukuloa in Ra – this morning – Bainimarama urged stakeholders to work with government to help revive the industry.

“Dirty politics and bitter narrow interests has been crippling the sugar industry for a very long time – which is the reason government has stepped in to revive it.

Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama made the statement while opening the Ra Provincial Council meeting this morning.

Bainimarama has urged the people of Ra to plant more sugar cane and use up unutilised land.

Bainimarama has called on landowners in the Ra Province to lease out their land as they will only leave it lying idle.

The Prime Minister has assured the people of Ra – government will see that the sugar industry is revived and generate revenue for Fiji.

Bainimarama was accompanied to the meeting by the Minister Lands – Netani Sukanaivalu, PS Lands Lt Col Neumi Leweni, Parmesh Chand, Sugar PS Manasa Vaniqi and Commissioner Western Joeli Cawaki.”

Bainimarama will visit the Fiji Water bottling plant this afternoon.
