PV Oil, a subsidiary of Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam), will introduce gasohol E5 for the first time to local consumers in Ho Chi Minh City in August.
Gasohol E5, comprised of 5 percent ethanol and 95 percent A92 fuel and partly made from ethanol (ethyl alcohol) is a new fuel which is said to save energy, better protect engines, reduce environmental pollution.
PV Oil said it will also introduce the fuel, rolled out on a trial basis in Hanoi in 2008, in the cities of Can Tho, Vung Tau and Hai Phong and in Hai Duong Province shortly after.
It plans to set up 20 gas stations serving the E5 fuel in August and increase it to 4,000 stations by 2012.
Gasohol is part of the government’s national five year power development strategy (2015 and 2020) that targets biofuel replacing the current A92 or A95 types of gasoline.
Gasohol E10 is used in many countries and carmakers have introduced products with engines using the new fuel.
