LYLE, Minn. (KTTC-DT) -- After recent struggles in the ethanol industry, a new study shows a promising future.
The annual report from the Minnesota Department of Agriculture says Minnesota's Ethanol business generated more than $2.5 billion in 2009 and supported 6,800 jobs.
Statewide ethanol production increased to 862 million gallons in 2009, with an estimate of it growing to 1.1 billion gallons in 2010.
Officials say the rebound is good news for the state's 21 ethanol plants, half of which are farmer owned co-ops.
"Increase the market opportunities for our farmers as they continue to grow more and more bushels every year. And also, you know, in these times, its good to increase state revenues for budget issues," says Rick Schwarck with Absolute Energy in Lyle.
Schwarck says the increase in ethanol activity has created new jobs and will help improve economic stability in the country.
