Mumias Sugar Co., a Kenyan grower and processor of the sweetener, is looking for companies to help it build an ethanol distillery plant in the East African nation, it said in an advertisement.

The plant would produce as many as 100,000 liters (26,385 gallons) of ethanol per day, Mumias said in an expression of interest notice in the Nairobi-based Standard newspaper today.

The project requires companies to help design the plant, manufacture and install parts, test equipment and start operations on a turnkey basis, it said. The deadline to submit expressions of interest is Jan. 15 and the bidding process for a short-list of eligible companies will follow, according to the company.

In August, Mumias began selling power generated from sugar cane waste at a 26-megawatt plant situated in the country’s west to Kenya Power and Lighting Co., the state-run monopoly electricity distributor.
