Sugar output in Brazil, the world’s biggest producer, will rise less than expected this year, the Agriculture Ministry said.
Brazilian mills will produce 34.6 million metric tons of the sweetener this year, down from 36.7 million tons forecast in September, the ministry’s crop-forecasting agency, known as Conab, said today in an e-mailed statement. Output will rise from 31.6 million tons last year.
Production of sugar-cane to make sugar and ethanol will rise to 612.2 million tons, down from 629 million tons forecast in September, Conab said. Output will rise from a revised 571.4 million tons last year.
