A group of Nebraskans hopes that its search for a new way of powering diesel engines will help save the environment, while also revving up the farm economy.

Ethanol is a key part of their plan to retro-fit diesel engines so they can be run on a mixture of ethanol, water and diesel fuel. The goal is to reduce pollution and improve the efficiency of diesel trucks and other vehicles.

Now, the group - which formed CleanFlex Power Systems LLC of Lincoln, Neb. - is trying to spread the word about the innovation and traveled to Sioux Falls Wednesday to demonstrate the new technology.

In a parking lot behind the historic Crane Building downtown, not far from the old John Deere Plow Co. where diesel tractors were once sold downtown, bio-fuel systems engineer Kevin Kenney fired up a maroon pickup powered by the new fuel.
