Ekiti State Governor, Segun Oni, has donated 15,000 hectares of land to Chinese investors handling the ethanol project at Oke-Ayedun, Ikole Local Government area of the state, for cassava plantation.
His media aide, Mr. Lere Olayinka, said in a statement made available to reporters yesterday, that Oni, while speaking at a dinner organised for a team of Chinese core-investors in the Ethanol project, said the ambition of his government was to make Ekiti State one of the most important Biofuel producers in the world.
Oni, who said the state will generate Biofuel from both cassava and sweet sorghum, added that government would bear the cost of survey and that all title documents on the land would be released to the Chinese investors soon, for immediate take-off of the project.
He said three Ethanol projects are now on-going in the state, listing the sites as Ilemeso, Oye Local Government area, Iyemero and Oke-Ayedun, in Ikole Local Government area of the state.
“Ekiti State has taken a decision to be number one centre for Biofuel in Africa and we not going to leave any stone unturned to achieve this.”
We are aware of the enormous task ahead of us and we are not going to waver in our resolve to lay a solid foundation for what is going to be the most solid and virile economy in this part of the world.“We are also not going to shield our people from the attendant hardships our efforts will bring on our people, because it is only an irresponsible government that will try to shield the people from the necessary pains associated with development,” Oni said.
While noting that the government was not one that is expecting to be celebrated now, Oni said, “ours is a race for history and any race for history cannot be a short distance one.Speaking on behalf of the Chinese investors, Daniel Lee expressed appreciation to the government for providing the land, saying it was a wise decision for government to invest in the project.
