Crude oil rose above $74 a barrel in New York for the first time in 10 months, following equities higher on speculation that the global recession is easing, Bloomberg reports Friday.

NYMEX crude for October delivery increased $1.12, 1.5%, to $74.03 a barrel. October futures advanced 6.5% this week.
