The Sugar Cane Growers Council says the third cane payment to be made for the last season should have been around six to seven dollars per ton of cane.
Council chairman Jain Kumar says the council was not expecting the FSC to deduct six point five six million dollars from the sugar industry, at the same time making other deductions from the third payment.
Kumar says the council is concerned that growers will be getting less money from the third cane payment following all deductions.
"In fact I am very mindful I was looking forward of atleast six to eight dollars for this payment, myself I was looking forward and I never thought that this payment will come down to four dollars, in fact we bare very mindful that the growers have to go in a very hardship and I am sure some people would not be able to receive a single cent because of the deduction FSC will be making, like the rental deduction."
Meanwhile the Fiji Cane Growers Association general secretary Bala Dass says, Kumar is not telling the truth that the Council did not know that the FSC will be deducting six point five six million dollars from the sugar industry cost and other deductions.
