The State Sugar Company (Krajowa Spółka Cukrowa) has reported a profit of half of billion zlotys, ‘Puls Biznesu’ found out. Most companies are looking for savings and laying off workers but the sugar industry seems to be flourishing.
‘It looks like KSC will record the highest profit ever’ Jarosław Poniatowicz, the leaving president of the company said. ‘Our business was promoted by the strengthening euro which shapes the price of sugar on the EU market’ he explained.
After Poland’s accession to the EU, Polish national sugar industry underwent restructurization which resulted in shutting down 20 plants and sacking over a thousand workers.
