The national Workers’ Union (NWU) is imploring the government to present to the country an alternative plan for the ailing sugar industry.
President of the NWU, Vincent Morrison told The Gleaner/Power 106 news centre that the union is not very hopeful of a deal with Infinity Bio-Energy.
The Brazilian company has been in a protracted negotiation with the government, but it is still unclear whether the deal will go through.
Mr. Morrison says the longer the current situation persists, the worse the sugar industry will be in the ensuing months.
Mr. Morrison suggests that government enter into discussions with persons locally to save the industry.
Government is expected to reveal to the country by Friday of this week, whether the deal with the Brazilian firm has been completed.
