Havana,(Prensa Latina) Peter Baron, Executive director of the International Sugar Organization (ISO), said diversification will spread like the future of cane sugar producers.
Baron attends the 10th International Congress on Sugar and Derivatives (Diversification 2008) that opened Tuesday at the Hotel Nacional with 250 Cubans and 150 guests from 25 countries.
After the master conference on the current situation of the world sugar economy Baron noted the growing use of by-products, a trend Cuba will join too.
Baron noted that since market competition will soar just large-scale proficient economies like Brazil, India and Thailand for instance, will reap greater sums.
So it is important for the people to learn that they can produce more than saccharine, said Baron.
He added that the current prices –ranging from $0.11 to $0.13 cents the pound- show improvement but a supply deficit in 2009 could help prices further improve.
The executive director of the International Sugar Organization lauded recovery of the sector in Cuba with the measures adopted that will help production grow in the near future.
Sugar cane in Cuba has dealt with weather adversities like draught or excessive rain and moist and two hurricanes lately.
The agenda for Diversification 2008, that closes Friday, includes topics like animal fodder, energy, alcohol and drinks, and environment.
