Fiji Sugar Industry Stakeholders are confident of receiving the remaining one point seven million dollars from the European Union.
Last year the EU in its assistance scheme gave out 2.5 million dollars in grant for cane replanting programs.
Sugar Commission of Fiji Chairman John May says if there are any delays the Sugar Cane Growers Fund will bridge the finance which will be reimbursed later.
May says there is a little over one million dollars left in the Sugar Cane Growers Fund and this will be utilized soon for replanting program before the next allocation is received of another four point two million dollars.
“Funding will now also be released from the Growers Fund which are holding part of the money and the program will move-it’s over a million dollars and that will be released for the balance of the program-we are expecting it within a month and if it’s delayed to any extent, the Fund will provide bridging finance –so that should not be a delay now because we are ready to bridge the finance to cover any legging time between now and the actual release from the EU.”
