A sugar festival will be held in Mackay to sweeten cane growers' year of hard knocks.
Mackay Canegrowers Limited is organising a festival next year in May to celebrate the value and positive side of the sugar industry to Mackay.
Recent tough conditions have left farmers with little to be happy about, but festival organiser Kerry Latter says it is time to celebrate the history, growth and future of the industry.
"We'd like to have everybody look upon it as an enjoyable and fun opportunity to learn a little and have a little bit of fun and also to enjoy just being in this region," she said.
"I think that's an important opportunity both for people that live here and for people that are going to be visiting at that time."
