SILAY CITY, Negros Occidental, March 14 (PIA6) -- The Silay City Government will sponsor the showing of ‘Pureza,’ a film by J. Abello on Negros sugar on March 15 at Sen. Jose C. Locsin Cultural and Civic Center, a press release from Silay City said.

This is facilitated by Negros Pureza Foundation and Bonfire Productions in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

Silay City Mayor Jose Montelibano said that the show is intended for sugarcane workers, planters, educators, civic clubs, government employees, barangay officials and students to make them aware of the reality in the sugar industry of Negros.

Montelibano added that the film is both informative and educational because it features the history of the sugar industry, the different stages that took place in the economic growth of Negros and the different roles played by the workers, planters, millers, traders and consumers.

Ver Pacete, tourism officer of Silay, said this will be an opportunity, especially to Social Studies teachers to know in detail the mechanics of the sugar industry which could not be found in textbooks; and the students will be able to view how sugar helps their parents to make them complete their education.

The show is free but tickets will be distributed to interested audience because the venue can only accommodate a certain number of viewers.
